Privacy Policy

MotorBabu ("the app") is operated by MotorBabu Private Limited ("MotorBabu", "we", "us", "our"). This page explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and how you can control or remove it.

Information we collect

• Phone number — used to sign you in, via a one-time code sent by SMS. This is the only way to create an account; there are no passwords or usernames.
• Name (optional) — if you choose to add one in your profile, it's shown in the app so it's clear whose account it is.
• Vehicle information you enter — brand, model, registration number, vehicle type, and odometer readings.
• Maintenance records you enter — what you logged (oil, tyres, battery, brakes, or other work), dates, brands/parts, and any notes you write.
• Vehicle documents you enter — for insurance, PUC, RC and similar papers: the expiry date, the insurer, and the policy or certificate number, if you add them.
• Photos and PDFs you attach — for example a service bill, or a copy of your insurance policy, RC or PUC certificate. Because these are copies of your own documents, they can contain personal details such as your name, address or policy number.
• Fuel fills you log — the date, amount paid, litres, odometer reading and whether you filled the tank. If you don't enter the litres, the app estimates them from your last fill's price, and marks them as estimated.
• Reading your documents on your phone — when you attach an insurance policy or PUC certificate, the app can read its text on your device to suggest the expiry date, policy number and insurer. This happens entirely on your phone; the document's contents aren't sent to us or anyone else for this, and nothing is saved unless you tap "Use these".
• CarPlay — to open on the right vehicle in each car, the app stores, on your phone only, an identifier of your car's CarPlay connection (its Bluetooth address) and the car's name. It never leaves your phone, and you can remove it in Profile → CarPlay → Your cars.
• Looking up your vehicle by its number plate — when you add a vehicle by its number plate, or tap "Fetch insurance & PUC dates", the app sends the registration number to our lookup provider, which checks the Government of India's vehicle registration records (VAHAN). This happens only when you ask for it. The records also contain the owner's name and address; we discard those straight away and never store them or show them in the app. We keep only the vehicle details the app uses — make, model, fuel, registration month, and the insurer and the insurance, PUC and RC expiry dates — along with the number you looked up and when, so we can reuse a recent result and limit how many lookups each account makes.
• WhatsApp reminders (optional) — if you turn on WhatsApp reminders in the app (you can turn them off any time in Profile → Notifications), we send reminders before your insurance or PUC expires to the phone number you signed in with. To deliver them, Meta (WhatsApp's owner) receives that phone number and the message itself: your first name, the vehicle's name and registration number, the document and its expiry date. We only send reminders you turned on — never ads — and you can stop them any time in the app or by replying STOP.
• Siri — when you ask Siri to update the km or log fuel, Apple handles the voice; the app receives only the words of the reading or amount.

We don't collect location data or contacts from your device, or any information beyond what you enter or attach in the app yourself, or ask it to look up. "Find a PUC centre / petrol pump nearby" on the car screen opens Apple Maps, which uses your location under Apple's own privacy policy; MotorBabu doesn't receive it. The app uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to attach a photo, and only the photo you take or pick is saved. The app runs no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking. It does keep its own usage counts — see "Usage events in the app" below — and "Analytics on this website" covers the separate analytics used on motorbabu.com.

How we use this information

Solely to provide the app's core purpose: signing you in, and storing and displaying the vehicle and maintenance records you create. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond running the app. We also look at anonymous, aggregate statistics — for example, how many vehicles have been added or which items are logged most — to understand and improve the app. These are counts across all users, never your individual records.

Where your information is stored

Your data is stored in a Supabase-hosted database, and a local copy is kept on your device for offline access via PowerSync — this is what lets the app work without an internet connection, syncing automatically once you're back online. Both are standard infrastructure providers that host the app's data; neither uses your information for their own purposes.

Photos and PDFs you attach are stored in private Supabase Storage that only your signed-in account can access, and are kept on your device too so they open offline. They are never public, and links to them are created only when you open them and expire within minutes.

Third parties involved

• Supabase — hosts our database and handles account sign-in.
• Our SMS delivery provider — delivers the one-time sign-in code to your phone number. Your phone number is shared with this provider only for that purpose.
• PowerSync — powers the offline/local-sync functionality between your device and our database.
• Meta (WhatsApp) — delivers WhatsApp reminders, only if you turn them on. It receives your phone number and the reminder's content, as described above.
• Eko India Financial Services — our vehicle lookup provider. When you look up a vehicle, it receives only the registration number, and returns that vehicle's details from the government registration records.

None of these providers are permitted to use your information for their own purposes beyond providing this infrastructure to us.

Usage events in the app

To learn whether MotorBabu is useful and which features help, the app records a small number of usage events — for example that the app was opened, a vehicle was added, a service was saved, a reminder was opened, or the app was shared — with the time, the app version and whether it's an iPhone or Android phone. They are stored with your account in our own database (Supabase), the same as your records. They never include your name, phone number, registration number, amounts, or anything you type, and no third-party analytics or advertising company receives them. We only ever look at them as counts across all users, such as how many people open the app each week. They are deleted with your account.

Analytics on this website

This website (motorbabu.com) — not the app — uses Google Analytics to understand traffic, like which pages are visited and roughly how many people visit. It doesn't have access to your MotorBabu account, phone number, or any vehicle or maintenance data, none of which ever leaves the app's own infrastructure.

Data retention and deletion

Your information is kept for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account — this immediately and permanently removes your account, every vehicle, every maintenance record, every vehicle lookup, every usage event, and every photo or PDF you attached, with no recovery period. This action cannot be undone.

Your rights

You can view, edit, or delete any vehicle, maintenance record, document, or attached photo or PDF directly in the app at any time. Deleting an attachment, or the record, document or vehicle it belongs to, removes it from our storage too. You can delete your entire account and all associated data as described above. If you have any other request regarding your data, contact us using the details below.

Children's privacy

MotorBabu is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
